To discuss blanketing and other approaches to reduce VM and manure on fleece. Taught by Brenden Singh and Freddi Kazo.

10:00 – 10:50 am  |  How to Handle Sheep and Prepare for Your Shearer
Hands on approach on how to hold sheep. How to flip sheep. How handling rams differ from ewes. How to halter train a sheep. The shearer is coming. How to prepare the area and sheep to maximize fleece cleanliness and make your shearer happy. Taught by John O’Conner.

Demonstration on how to flip a sheep and trim hooves. Also discussion on how to treat foot scald/rot as well as methods to prevent or reduce its emergence.

1:00 – 1:30 pm  |  Assessing Sheep Condition: How to Do and Use FAMACHA and Body Condition Scoring
FAMACHA and body condition scoring are key to ensuring health of sheep. This is a hands-on demo on how to do scoring, how to interpret and follow up actions.

2:00 – 2:50 pm  |  Medical Intervention – How to Assess a Sick or Injured Sheep
If a sheep is suffering a medical condition, what information should be collected to decide on a course of treatment. What should you treat yourself and when to call the vet.
