The annual New Hampshire Sheep & Wool Festival Youth show will be held on Saturday May 9th, beginning at 9:30 AM. The emphasis of this show is on participation, not competition.
Participants must preregister to receive premiums and a Sheep & Wool Festival T-shirt. A youth may show without preregistering, but will receive only ribbons. Each participant is limited to one entry per class with a maximum limit of three animals. The entry form follows the show schedule. If you have any questions you can call or email the coordinator.
Youth are responsible for setting up their own sheep pen, taking them down and help with cleaning the barn area. If you can bring a wheelbarrow, fork, etc. it would be helpful.
All sheep (NH Sheep & Out of State Sheep) must have a Scrapie Tag in their ear. Out of State Sheep must also have the required 2020 Health Certificate. All Sheep must be individually identified by a legible permanent, metal or plastic tag or by microchip, if a reader is available. Rabies vaccinations are highly recommended.
Arrival at the Festival:
No vehicles are allowed to move on the grounds after 8:30 AM, so please plan accordingly.
9:30 AM – Breed Show will begin, followed by Feeder lamb classes, Costume Show and Lead-line Classes.
Breed and feeder lamb classes will be placed using the Danish system.
Premiums are: Blue $10, Red $7, White $5.
Classes maybe divided by breed if there are enough animals.
Each participant will receive $10. Participants chooses a character and dress in costume, along with a costume for the sheep. Please bring a narration the day of the show. Classes may be divided by age if there are enough participants. Novice, Junior, Intermediate and Seniors.
Ages for Lead-line are as of the day of the show. Lead-line classes will be placed and participants will receive $10.
Composition of garment fiber must be up to at least 70% wool.
All sheep must be shown on a halter in the Lead-line class.
Wool sheep will be judged on its fleece, all sheep on cleanliness. Feeder lambs can be used if fitted as a feeder lamb. (slick shorn) Sheep does not need to be owned by contestant.
The sheep does not need to be registered.
Please have a narration ready on the day of the show.
Novice – ages 8 and under
Intermediate - ages – 13-15
Senior –ages – 16-21
Both the youth and the sheep are judged in this class. Sheep points are up to a maximum of 25. Youth & Garment points up to a maximum of 75.
Each class will line up in the show ring as a group. Participants and their animals are to walk around the ring while their narration is read.
